Prothrombin Complex Concentrate-induced Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation

Prothrombin Complex Concentrate appears to enjoy a good safety profile in its use for Warfarin bleeding reversal.

However its use has extended to trauma with potential risks of thromboembolic complications and disseminated intravascular coagulopathy as shown in this porcine trauma model, more notable with co-administration of fibrinogen.

It was found that addition of antithrombin appeared to balance the procoagulant effects of prothrombin complex concentrate, consequently reducing the risk of complications without impairing efficacy.
